Municipal House (Obecní dům), Art Nouveau Hall

Original wood panelling, ceramic reliefs and period lighting frame intimate classical concerts in the Art Nouveau Hall of Prague’s Municipal House.

The Art Nouveau Hall is an intimate concert venue within the Municipal House on Prague’s Republic Square. Its preserved materials and decorative details bring visitors close to the craftsmanship that made the building one of the city’s defining Art Nouveau landmarks.

Original Art Nouveau details

Wood panelling with inset ceramic reliefs and mirrors surrounds the room, complemented by stucco ornament and distinctive inlaid tiling around the stage. Several original lamps have also survived, completing an interior in which architecture, decoration and craftsmanship were conceived as a unified whole.

Part of Prague’s Municipal House

The Municipal House was designed by Antonín Balšánek and Osvald Polívka as a multifunctional centre for ceremonies, exhibitions, concerts, restaurants and shops. Prominent Czech artists and numerous craftsmen contributed to its richly decorated interiors.

Between 1994 and 1997, the entire building was meticulously restored using original plans and period photographs. The Art Nouveau Hall therefore offers not only an intimate setting for concerts, but also a close view of the materials and details preserved during that restoration.
