Art Restaurant Manes
Swing over the Vltava — Sinatra Tribute dinner evenings in the functionalist Mánes building, where art, music and fine dining meet.
Art Restaurant Mánes is part of one of the icons of Czech modern architecture — the functionalist Mánes building, designed by Otakar Novotný and built in 1928–1930 literally above the Vltava, on a bridge connecting Masarykovo Embankment with the tip of Slavonic Island. Named after the painter Josef Mánes, the complex ingeniously incorporates the Renaissance Šítkovská water tower — and together they are listed as a protected cultural monument of the Czech Republic.
Art, Frescoes and Ježek's Steinway
The original restaurant with its terrace and ceiling frescoes by the Cubist painter Emil Filla has been carefully restored. In the café you will find a renovated Steinway & Sons grand piano from 1897, regularly played by Jaroslav Ježek, the famous Czech jazz pianist and composer — a fitting spirit for the Sinatra Tribute swing evenings with dinner held here today.
A House of Art
The central space of the building is the main exhibition hall, designed for world-class exhibitions of visual art: its central part rises through two floors and is lit by a glass-and-steel gabled roof. The lower floor offers two multifunctional spaces for screenings, lectures, workshops, auctions and smaller exhibitions.
